~ 'Good Guy' Merchants

See Who the Bad Guy Merchants Are!
Those Company's/Businesses That Care About the Handicap and Those That Don't!

I created this part of LadyAmp foremost, because there are companies and businesses that go out of their way to make accessibility to their stores a priority for the disabled and handicapped.

Secondly, because there are businesses who couldn't care less if we patron their stores or not. Making sure the disabled or handicap person can safely reach their doors isn't a major concern for these companies, and if we can actually 'shop' to buy in their store is an even less concern.

I've separated the two into two different pages. The Good Guys and The Bad Guys. Visit the Good Guys by clicking on the link at the top of this page.

If you have had a good or bad experience with a store and want to tell someone, let me know. The public and other disabled and handicap persons should know how their neighborhood stores feel about us. Who else is better equipped to make our voice heard then ourselves? I'm not afraid to tell it like it is!! I'll be glad to add them to our good or bad page links and let them know how far down on the ladder they really are!! E-Mail

Lowes, Defiance, OH Another store I'm impressed with. Lowes is a home improvement store, the size of a warehouse. They have 2 electric carts. Now, I'd love to see at least 2 more, but they are on the right track just having 2.

Walmart Super Center, Wauseon, OH I am impressed!! The Walmart store near me changed to a Super Center in April, '05, and I went over there to check it out a couple of weeks ago. You'll never quess what I found! They have 8 (you read that right!) NEW electric carts!!! Brand spanking new!!!! I was stunned!!! Mr. Walton, I hope you're looking down on this new store. You did good!!!

A special thank you to Stella S. of North Carolina:

Fowler's Fine Food & Wine Store, Durham, NC - has the BEST handicapped bathrooms (men and women) I've used in downtown Durham! The entrance ramp is a bit steep (limited space from brick walls on either side), but once you get in, it's easily accessible.

Walmart Super Center, Napoleon, OH...WOW! It's a new store and all I can say it THANK YOU!! I visited there this past week and arrived at 11:00AM. They had 7 (yes...7) electric carts, and the greeter even brought it to me! Now, I don't usually need one, but I knew I'd be walking ALL over this store, so I got it!! They are wonderful!! Mr. Walton you did good!!!

Meijer Stores, Defiance, OH is on LadyAmp's The Good Guys list. This Meijer is an absolute pleasure to do business!!! They have 10 (yes, 10!) electric carts!!! And it is reported they are ALWAYS in working order and charged!! Now WHY can't their other stores be this aware of the disabled and handicapped persons who partron their store?

Southwyck Mall, Toledo, OH Wow!! Was I ever surprised!!! This is a corporate entity that has gone above and beyond the necessities for the disabled. Their bathrooms are equipped with a push button which allows the bathroom doors to automatically open (such as you might see in a hospital!). This allows the person in a wheelchair or on a walker to enter the bathroom without having to hold the door open!! Southwyck Mall you're one in a million!!!!

Sam's Club, Toledo, OH Not all Sam's Clubs are as bad as the one in Indiana. This store is wonderful! They have 5 electric carts and I've NEVER had a problem getting a cart due to any of them being broken or not charged! Hey Mr. Walton, you've got great Management at this store! Would you mind cloning them and sending them to Indiana? (December, 2001- My husband and I did some shopping this month at this Sam's Club. The lady at the door said she would send a cart boy out to get the electric cart I was using after we had unloaded our purchases to our car. I told her my husband ALWAYS brings them back. To us, it's a service to those of us who need these carts, and we feel it's our duty to make sure we have them when we need them. Taking an electric cart BACK to the store only takes a few minutes. This nice lady was telling me they had one of their carts STOLEN!! Right out of the parking lot. Can you believe that? Anyone that low, that insensitive to the needs of the handicap needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law! PLEASE, do your part in making sure those carts are there when we need them!! If you see someone taking one, do the right thing and report it immediately!)

Chief's Grocery Store located in Wauseon, OH is GREAT!!! They have at least 5 electric carts and keep them plugged in so they are ALWAYS charged! The carts are in an alcove right at the entrance to the store so you don't have far to go to get the help you need. HIP-HIP-HOORRAH for Chief's!!!! (Update: May, 2005-Chief's is down to 2 electric carts and doesn't feel the need to replace the 3 carts missing. When I asked the manger about replacing the carts, he stated that one was stolen and the other 2 were broken down. I mentioned that if that was the case, the 2 that were broken had been broken for the past 3 months. I was testy enough to ask "Any time frame as to when the disabled community could expect them to be fixed?" His comment was "I'll look into it.") I'll check back in a month to see what progress has been made.
